Description
Rain Ponchos are the secret weapon of rainy weather riding in Auckland. Keeping air between you and your rain protection reduces sweat and ultimately means the water doesn’t get through and you stay dryer. The design also means there are no zippers and fewer seams on the poncho (vs a jacket) and therefore it’s easier to make a waterproof piece of clothing at a reasonable budget. Another benefit is that it’s quicker to put on and take off.
Although not completely removing the need for rain pants, ponchos significantly raise the threshold at which rain pants might be needed because:
- the poncho itself covers you from about the thighs up
- you don’t have water running down your rain jacket straight into your legs
Ponchos don’t have to completely replace a rain jacket – in extreme rain conditions, a rain jacket plus a poncho together is probably the only thing that will keep you completely dry!

BASIL – UNISEX HOGA RAIN PONCHO
With the Basil Hoga unisex bike rain poncho, you will always arrive at your destination dry and comfortable. Handy for a bike ride to work or a visit to the shop, the poncho is functional, looks trendy and prevents wet clothes. The unisex poncho in the colour olive green is made of T-Fabric 5.000 WP and 5.000 MVP, which means that the poncho is waterproof and breathable. Thanks to the DWR coating, rainwater will bead off the fabric and prevent a clammy interior. The three-piece hood of the poncho is finely adjustable, so you always have a good view. Do you find it useful to have sleeves while walking? With the pushbuttons, you can create sleeves in a jiffy. Furthermore, the poncho has hip straps and hand loops. This prevents the green poncho from blowing up while cycling. The tone-on-tone reflection makes you more visible in the dark. The unisex rain poncho from Basil is available in one size.
